Short Mat Bowls

Short Mat Bowls

The Reverend Bill Bentham and I had a chat in 2007 and decided that it would be a positive move for the local community and church goers if we bought some short mat bowls equipment. We were not wrong!

Once the equipment was purchased the first event occurred on 1st October 2007 and we have gone from strength to strength since then.

Although we started with just one mat we now have two and if the hall was bigger I am sure that we could accommodate another mat due to the amount of interest in the game locally.

The secret of our success is a very friendly but competitive atmosphere, a charge of £1.00 per person for two hours of play and also cups of tea or coffee and biscuits half way through each session.

Although a little bit of experience is needed it is not essential as we will help with equipment and tuition. It keeps us all physically active, including one sprightly 95 year old!

We meet each Monday and Thursday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church and some of us even play away matches at Glentworth village hall on Monday evening.

Should you wish to join please contact me at the Church, however I should point out that there is currently a waiting list for membership.
